RobertTyrrell is right. There WAS a CME back in 1869 called the Carrington Event. The only electrical thingies back then were Telegraph stations and apparently many of them burst into flames and communications were taken out for ages. If such a similar even took place now, the entire WORLD would be "off line" for a century of more. Just look at what happened in Canada when they had a particularly vigorous set of Northern Lights - entire CITIES wiped out in a flash!!! Most things we take for granted now are provided through a flurry of orbiting satellites and a Coronal Mass Ejection aimed at us would take every one of them out of service in a heartbeat.
YES - we do reply far too much on technology and it it now our most vulnerable aspect of modern civilization. America is now full of people called "Preppers" who are trying to prepare their lives right now to live safely and healthily WITHOUT modern contraptions. If a CME happens, would YOU and your family be able to survive a year? A month????
I can tell you having lived thru Hurricane Sandy that we most definitely do.9 nights without lights, television, the computer,or heat will really bring it home that you rely on technology.Oh,and lets not forget no telephone.
Because, technology is a machine. A machine makes things easier in one way or another, and technology today is just a bunch of REALLY advanced machines. Humans go for the easiest way, so they go for the best machine.
ABSOLUTLY i'm not a cyborg. but if there was a massive coronal ejection that took out the power grid( we're talking back to the stone age) you people will die. not me i raise my own animals and crops, I have land to hunt. it will take less than 72 hrs for store shelves to empty of EVERYTHING. w/o tech nothing moves in the U.S are you prepared?
