Three-year-olds are all about pushing boundaries to see how far you'll cave in. Even though you are babysitting, you can still show firmness, even if it means picking him up and carrying him in there. Do not laugh or give any indication that it's a game. State your expectations, and also the consequences - does he have a favorite stuffed animal or blanket he can't sleep without? Getting out bed will mean losing one of those items. That was an amazing motivator for our daughter at that age.
If they like stories, read pr make one up. I babysit a girl who is three, and i have her go to bed early, but let her watch a show on my ipod, and she will fall right asleep. Wearing them out like having them run around alot about an hour before bed helps too.
you could tell them stories about the 3 little pigs or even make up a story if you have a boy tell them a story about a prince or for a girl tell them a story about a princess.. Sometimes you just have to let them just cry. As hard as it maybe. And before you have him/her go to bed.. Take them outside and just play with balls or anything for that matter.. have them chase the ball around...kick it back n forth.. the fresh air I found really wears them out.. I have a 2yr old and he loves being outside.. Then he goes to bed pretty early after about 3hrs of being outside all day.. chase the little one around the house.. have him running around the house.. keep him/her constantly doing something.. and he/she will get tried quick!!!
My cousins Almost 3 year old is very smart and loves reading. She can operate my iPod touch no problem! Shell be 3 OCt.24th. I babysat her for two years everyday Til she got into daycare this past summer. For bedtime 1) Gave her a snack -Glass water-Bathroom(she loves brushing teeth)-brushed teeth & I pulled out my iPod downloaded all the story chime books (they are free) & Then handed it to her and by the end of one book she fell asleep. There's pictures and it can read to her so you don't have to. TRY IT, It works (SHE TOO HAS A TEMPER)
