Why are sexist jokes about women seen as generally acceptable, yet when the tables turn, it's outrageous, sick, and wrong?

is it just a maturity thing? it seems like there are some men who can whip out any kitchen and "your mom" joke like scripture. when a female complains about it, they're put down and called names. yet he cries like a baby when the same is done to him..? I don't understand..! is it because society/media has turned women into inferior objects?
please no rude/smart-alec answers - you'll only prove my point. I'm not trying to argue, I just would like explanations.

I'm sorry people say those things to you like that. But blondes are seen as stupid, men are seen as fat, socially unable people who watch sports while others work, etc. Everyone is discriminated against.

Let me put it this way. I feel bad for anyone who's made fun of and I will defend a girl who's being insulted about her femininity. But what's just as bad as making fun of people is being so effected by ridicule that you begin to think your type of person is looked down upon. That's low confidence. You need to remember those kids who make fun of you know nothing about you. You have a whole life ahead of you and you shouldn't worry about a few moments of ridicule while there are years of opportunity waiting for you. So when a kid makes fun of you, think about it: those few seconds are nothing next to your entire life and you can't let it get in your way.

it's just simply not funny at all, and I don't see how many females could actually laugh at a kitchen joke. because it's not even a joke! it's literally telling a woman that shes' supposed to be making dinner right now, and that she has no right to do anything else.
would you think it's funny if you went up to a female employee at a store asking for help, and she cuts you off saying, "aren't you supposed to be at the office making me money?"
even in my mind that's not funny at all. it's a slap in the face.
I do believe women are looked down upon a lot more than men - even though things have gotten better since the 1950's, we're still treated much worse in general.

Why are you setting an example to me? I never denied it's very offensive. What I'm saying is EVERYONE is discriminated against in some way. Do you realize how many times I've seen things such as the book "WTF? Are They Even Thinking?: answers from men that women won't want to miss"? I bet you didn't know, women actually receive insults more than men give them, if you catch what I'm saying.

I just laugh when I hear a joke about men or women. Just about, if not all of them are true about either $ex, and any race. Just understand that it's just a joke, and take joy in their ignorance.

There are sexist jokes about men but not nearly as funny. If you're going to tell a joke, it needs to be funny. It may be totally sexist, politically incorrect, raciest, homophobic, pick your topic...as long as it doesn't go beyond the norms of general decency, AND it's funny, what the heck. Laugh and move on. It's not journalism - it's a JOKE.

Those jokes are not talking specifically about you, your gender, your personality, your whatever. Do you think the lawyers are all up in arms about all the jokes there are about them (deservedly so), all the blonds jokes, all the jokes about Polish people? They're JOKES. You are correct. There are some that are crude, over the top, meaningless, stupid and otherwise dumb but their all the same - their JOKES. Don't put any deeper meaning into them then they deserve. If you don't like them - don't laugh. If you do - have a chuckle and move on. The world doesn't spin around jokes.

it's offensive! and it just makes a mockery of women in general, which isn't cool. I don't enjoy any kind of sexist joke, about men or women.
I've cried a lot from people making kitchen jokes to me, it's jut not funny at all and actually hurts peoples feelings.

Understand...I'm not defending senseless jokes. What I'm talking about is your reaction to them. If they bother you, ignore them. If people find out they bother you, they'll pour them on all the more just to bug you. I'm sensitive to a lot of issues but can recognize and appreciate a good joke at the same time. That doesn't make it right, wrong or anywhere in-between. It's a JOKE. Consider the source. Consider the environment. If you let items like that eat you up, then you're in for a life of sadness. Lighten up. You'll live a lot longer.

cuz guys need to feel important for once, so we let em go... poor wittle babies XD just kidding, I really don't know; since cavemen, life has been like that. F*** sexist people. I still laugh at the jokes either way, including stereotypes... they're so stupid they're funny

Some people say the your mom thing to other people and they get beat up. People are so protective with their moms. Once I said a you momma joke to my sisters friend. He said I hate those jokes. I asked why. He said his mom died. I felt so bad because he started to cry. Sorry this is off topic kinda =P
