Why do most people who believe in something (mainly religion) refuse to hear other beliefs, ideas, or opinions?
I remember a science teacher of mine once telling me that in order to have an argument with someone, you must first understand both sides. I'm very open minded, and I like the idea of a life beyond death, and I do sort of believe there could be something greater meant for us, so I do like listening to religious view points, but when I try to express my views to someone, either from an atheist view point, or agnostic, they think I'm attacking them and completely shut me out. Is it just plain ignorance or is faith really powerful enough to cause people to be closed minded? I see this often too, and don't get me wrong, this goes for both ways, religious and non religious.
