No, it is not real. I am from Lancaster County and currently reside in a neighboring County. Most of what is seen is fabricated. Also, the "cast" of the show are not Amish. The Amish order that their parents belong to have confirmed that none of the "cast" is Amish. To be considered Amish, you have to join the church. None of them have, which is why they are allowed to appear on TV. The show has even admitted that what they show are re-enactments and not actual events occurring. The Amish from Lancaster County say that the show is anywhere from 1-10% accurate, depending on the current episode. So much for "reality."
according to the tv show, yes. but i heard that their more like a gang rather then a mafia. if you watch the show carefully you can see that some of the guys have cell phones, trucks and one of them is even a pro MMA fighter...which defeats the purpose of being amish anyway
It's about as real as any other reality tv show. Usually a lot of stuff in any reality tv show is actually staged. But most people have come to expect that, so I guess it depends on what you mean by "real"
