What does bleeding of concrete mean?

Also the difference between Plastic shrinkage cracking and Plastic settlement cracking ?

Report as

bleeding refers to the water that surfaces to concrete as it cures.... plastic shrinkages cracking usually means too much water to cement ratio but can also mean to fast of a cure rate (ie. too much sun or wind) taking water from the hydration process.... not sure about the plastic settlement.... my GUESS would be that is caused from a pouring the concrete on a low bearing surface. Like soft clays or wet sands. there is no way to say which way is worse really w/o more info but generally speaking i would think that the latter is the worse at least long term.

*slaps head.... also plastic settlement cracking can be caused by a perpendicular load... also plastic shriknage cracking can be causes by a parallel load.... back to your original statement shrinkage can be called TENSILE..... and SETTLEMENT MAY be called the POINT load. Hmmf *looks to the sky* im afraid i may have made matters worse

no you didnt actually thanks for your help but its too complicated. Do you have any idea if they both occur in the same region like one in slabs and other in walls
Report as
oh yes and yes..... USUALLY if the same "crack" extends to both its a settlement crack... a skrinkage crack may appear in both but be eradict. Since they shouldve been poured at different times

scuffnstuff
Concrete is porous. It will absorb and/or permit the passage of liquids. In doing that it often becomes stained with rust and water marks, referred to as bleeding. Sealing compounds are available to prevent it happening.
