"Do Christians have the authority to command angels?"

Report as

I wouldn't think so. I can't recall any instance of that ever happening in scripture. As far as I know they take their orders directly from the Big Guy himself and don't answer to us.

Maybe not directly from the Big Guy. I think he would most likely indirectly order them, possibly through other angels or maybe even Archangels.

Wildviper - you could be right about that.

I don't know how to answer this specific question, but I do know that we have every right to call upon them and ask for their presence.

Sure, why not. As far as I'm concerned, Christians are also welcome to command leprechauns and unicorns.
Having said that, I don't know of any Christian churches that would support the idea.

It doesn't matter what churches support. I am a non-denominational Christian personally so I could care less what a church thinks.

No. Only God can. They also have free will but choose to obey.

I have heard of churches that teach this. They believe the angels are always near us, waiting for our command. Personally, I believe we can ask God to send his angels to protect us, but I don't think we have the power to command angels.

I think you can ask God to send angels as I have done but to command angels I don't think so

As a Christian you have power over demonic or fallen angels. You can ask God to send angels to protect and watch over you as long as it's in His Will

Since when? We can ask God to work through us but as sin filled humans we have no direct or personal power to do so. Only with the power of Gods name can do anything in that fashion.

Mark 16:14-18

The Great Commission

14 Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

No. Only God commands the beings we refer to as angels. As sim filled humans the ONLY way we can effect the actions of any heavenly being is thru Gods name, asking Him for His help. We cannot, as weak humans, have personal effect on heavenly beings.

The only power we have is to use the name of Jesus to rebuke satan and his demons. We cannot tell angels to do anything. But we can ask God if He will send His angels to watch over us.

You can tell anyone whatever you want. No guarantee that they will listen. Also if you happen to be commanding a human, no guarantee they wont slap you in the face.

We have no 'authority' over anyone or thing. Even the food chain doesn't dictate 'authority'.

Angels are sent to serve the saints. ====================================Therefore, angels are only servants?spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation. (Hebrews 1:14 NLT) ================== And they only obey God's command =====================Bless the Lord , ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. (Psalms 103:20 KJV)=============================== The Angels only follow God's orders ============And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth. (Revelation 16:1 KJV)

If they could, blind faith in Christian fables wouldn't be necessary. As it is, talking to "angels" is classified as schizophrenia.
