Why is Greenland called green when it is covered in ice?

Report as

Greenland's name originated with Scandinavian settlers, particularly Erik the Red, when he was exiled from Iceland. It is believed he called the area Groenland (translated as "Greenland") to attract more settlers to the area.

I don't know but there must be a reason for that name.

A very long time ago, there were seasons of green in Greenland.

The early settlers were terribly lonely for more people to settle. The name is purposely deceptive as an enticement to others to come and settle in the summer. They could not sail during winter.
