why do some jets leave huge lines across the sky?

the sky looks so blue when all of a sudden there's white lines running over my head !

They're just contrails, the engines are blasting out hot air but at high altitudes the air is very cold, it's kinda like when you can see your breath when it's cold outside.

it's called a condensation trail... they are high enough for the exhaust to do so

They are called contrails. It's the water vapor left over from the engine exhaust I believe.

the lines are made of smoke. jets burn energy which makes smoke. if jets flew in the same place all the time probably there would be a big group of smoke in that spot. but since the jet moves very fast the smoke makes huge lines.

It's condensation, they r called con-trails
