Dress up like a squirrel, then climb a tree, then fall down the tree, have a tea party with nuts, become the alpha squirrel, then lead them into you room and then pull off your squirrel costume and if any try to run aways throw rocks at them and throw then in your closet for being bad. Trust me it always works I have like 50 pet squirrels with brain damage, they all tried leaving, but no one leaves me.
Please don't even think about making a wild animal a pet. There's a very good reason squirrels have not been domesticated. if you want to feed a squirrel, get some peanuts and place them somewhere where you can view them from afar. just don't capture one.
In most states it's actually illegal to keep squirrels as a pet, unless you are a licensed rescue center. So it's not a good idea to even attempt it, as it can land you in jail, or net you a hefty fine.
In most states it is illegal to have a wild animal as a pet. You live in Piedmont, AL so I would recommend you contact your local animal shelter to find out if it is legal for you to have a squirrel as a pet. Here is a link to your local shelter:
Gain it's trust to the point where you can handle it. I've done this many times. Takes me 1 week and their like my little pets. However, don't keep it in the house in a cage. Let it live outside. It could have a family and stuff and you'd be ruining that. It would also lose trust towards you. Let it live in the wild where it belongs :)
1 way to catch one is by getting a squirrel sized box and putting bird feeder ( bird seeds) and bread into the box or a mix of the two. Tie a string to the box and wait. Once it goes in, simply pull the string! Make sure you get a very long string so it can't see you. Also hide because they have a keen sence of sight.
if u live in a house with a chimney, just leave it uncovered, put a trail of food towards the chimney starting from a tree, trust me it works, one time 16 got in just with the chimney uncovered andit was buy accident!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All im telling u is it will b mayhem once they get in lol
find a squirrel breeder make sure u know how to care for them first. do not i repeat do not go out and catch on it could be sick. then it could get you sick. squirrel breeders will sell u one make sure its healthy though. research how to care for them i know how to from personal stuff
looool I've always wanted a squirrel!!! Sometimes if they are abandoned babies and you have a mother cat it will feed off your cat and the cat dont mind. so first get a cat and if it dont work you will still have a cat and cats are awesome
I had a squirrel as a pet for 8 years. My squirrel - Sprint - I found as a 4-day-old pup. We took her to the vet, got her fluids, and spent the next 2 weeks feeding her 1 cc of puppy formula EVERY 2 HOURS. She got used to the dogs so we could never release her for fear of getting attacked.
Squirrels are messy. You will have to build a cage at LEAST the size of a big closet, but let it loose every day. The nuts you buy will be expensive. Collecting acorns isn't enough. Squirrels like to be up high, so that means they'll sit on your head. They will bury nuts everywhere. They will poop everywhere. They will climb curtains, chew furniture, and they scratch HARD. You WILL get pee in your hair. You WILL get bitten. I have scars.
Now, as you can see there's a lot involved in keeping a squirrel. Plus, your local laws may prohibit that. Don't get me wrong - I loved Sprint, she was very sweet, loved to be petted, and loved to sit on my shoulder when I was watching tv. But she was a handful. Squirrels are definitely not as easy as a domesticated species. If you really want one, is to call your local Shelter or DNR and ask if they have any infants that need fostering.
