If you try to fail, and succeed, what have you done? Failed or succeeded?

I first thought you succeeded, because you wanted to fail. But then I thought you failed, because you succeeded. Very confusing.

if you succeed at failing..... all i know is the more i read this question the more confused i get. you succeeded in that you confused me. at first i thought i knew the answer but now my head is just spinning! lol

Succession shouldn't even be used here. He failed because he thought he succeeded, but in reality he failed, which is a failed attempt at succession. Which in this case, he failed.

You have succeeded in coming up with a paradox, a pretty good one too, especially if you made it up yourself, because I have never heard of it before.
