Why do Xbox 360s not last long at all?

My Xbox 360 S is my 4th xbox I've owned, from owning one of the first and receiving the red ring of death multiple times. Then I got an Xbox 360 Elite which lasted much longer but ended the same way. So I upgraded to a slim (a refurbished one). It's been flawless and excellent but after almost 2 years it broke giving me a red power light and then refusing to power on. If this is a marketing strategy by xbox I can't believe they haven't been busted for it. I know people like me will just go out eventually and get a new one but why not make the consoles last at least 3 years? It's kinda ridiculous. And there are plenty of people out there that can't afford a new one if it breaks (I can't at the moment). What do you guys think?

There are a few problems. Especially with the XBOX.
If you want it to last long, lay it flat, and keep it as far away from other objects as possible, that way it can breath.
They have a problem, where the motherboard (when standing upright) gets hot (from too little air circulation), melts the sodder and essential pieces peel away.

They're built to break so you keep buying them, try a ps3

I've got the old white Xbox. I think it's the pro? (Not sure exact model but it's not arcade) and its lasted me about 5-6 years flawlessly. But I don't play 24/7. I play a reasonable amount of time
