What would be the cause of a Maytag oven to release the smell of gas during preheating?

The oven could be releasing gas if it uses gas and you should check for any leaks or get it checked by a professional. If it does not use gas, check whether it is clean because heated dirt can release different smells.

My dog releases the smell of gas a lot.

maybe a leaky gas line..the Gas Co. can check for you..free..if it on their side of the line..they fix..your side..you fix..
