Bacause imagine a person starts to cry in front of you.. And your like wtf.. What are they supposed to do? Theyre not gonna comfort you imediately, they are still trying to figure out why your crying in front of them. Lol
Most people want to "fix" your problem and make you feel better. Usually they're clumsy and awkward at it though - unless they've been thru something similar.
For instance, when my son died, I was in a group and someone said, Well at least it's not your only child", and I could have HIT them. Someone else said something about a silver lining behind every cloud. I was so mad! A bunch of PAT ANSWERS! And no one likes that. Best to just say, "I'm so sorry" and not much of anything else, except maybe a touch or an offered shoulder.
