Does the National Weather Service still issue "Heavy Snow Warnings"

I know they used to, a few years ago, for six or more inches of snow, but don't see it anymore. Not I just see a Winter Storm Warning or Winter Weather Advisory.

Yes, they do. At least here they have. When our mountains in colorado have Winter storm warnings or advisories they sometimes add heavy snow warnings, meaning that a large amount of snow is going to drop rapidly in your area, not over time. Pretty much don't go out and if you are out seek shelter immediately. Several years back there was this warning in Colorado Springs and some cadets from the Air Force Academy were driving back there and got caught by such an event and were trapped under an overpass. They all perished from CO2 poisoning, because they could not get out and they kept turning on their heater every so often to keep from freezing. It was very sad, so head the warning, if ever it does come.
