I want to spray paint my rides air filter metal housing chrome but Iv never

painted before how do i prep it and how do I paint it and what paints should I use ? Enamel, primer ,clear coat I don't understand that your help is much appreciated

The prep necessary depends on the condition of the housing at present. Of course you will need to remove it from the vehicle, and I recommend using a wire wheel brush on a drill to clean the surface of any loose paint or rust. Sand any rough spots until they are absolutely smooth. Then wash very well with dish soap and hot water, rinse well and let it dry thoroughly. Primer comes first, let it cure for the recommended time on the can, then sand with very fine grit sandpaper, or you can also use very fine steel wool to polish the primer surface. Then wash it thoroughly again and let it dry prior to painting with the chrome paint. Proper prep is crucial for success, especially when working with high-gloss finishes such as chrome paint. The surface must be absolutely smooth to ensure an attractive finished product.

No, if the surface is smooth you can simply paint right over it.

No, other than reiterating how important it is that the surface be absolutely smooth every step of the way. And you're very welcome.
