How do I get my Shi-tzu to stop scratching his back all the time?

My dog keeps biting and scratching his back until it bleeds and then he licks it until it is raw. Also he has pulled the hair out on his back because of it. He doesn't have fleas because he has medicine for that and flea shampoo. I give him baths regularly and wash out all the shampoo. We have washed him with oatmeal shampoo and hot spot shampoo. Also we have sprayed him with hot spot and flea spray and he has short hair. I don't know how to get him to stop or what is wrong with him. Please Help. Thanks.

My Shih Tzu does the same thing...it's a common problem. If he doesn't have fleas or any other skin disorder, it's most likely just dry skin. Start giving him a fish oil supplement (we use salmon) every day, and you'll see a difference in about a week. Try to keep bathing to every two or three weeks. Over-washing can make the problem worse.

Take him to a vet first but you might want to give him a haircut because his hair might be so long he wants it shorter and it could be catching things that are not coming out with the shampoo cause its in the hair itself.
