Is it illegal for employers to make you work off the clock? Such as doing paperwork, stocking coolers, sweeping and moping etc.?
If you are a salaried employee it is legal. But if you are paid by the hour then it is illegal for them to make you work without being paid.
Not if they don't wanna go to jail
In the US, yes.
Depends on what your contract says, but I don't think they can make you stay late, I think it's your choice.
Unethical, immoral, and wrong but likely not illegal. I'd say find another job.
Do you mope while you're sweeping, or do you get extra time to mope???I was never "on the clock" since I was paid by salary......but I also worked for a D-bag that made his own rules.......I would say it's PROBABLY illegal though.....
absolutely if your an hourly employee, but proving it and not having it come back to bite u later is a big problem
Sounds like Walmart; they were found guilty of locking in employees to stock shelves and not paid.So much for low prices.
