Should a four year old have their own Ipad and/or Iphone?

I just found out that a 4yr. old of my acquaintance has both. Can a case really be made that it's never to soon to expose a child to social media or do some people just have more money than brains?

dude. I'm 14 and I just got my first phone A few months ago. I don't think that is a good Idea. they probably won't appreciate it anyway, kind of like it's just another cheap toy they got.

exactly and they will spill something on it and break it.

Or they'd just randomly start pressing buttons and break the screen.
Example: Randomly pressing buttons..trying to play Temple Run.."WHY WON'T YOU WORK. WORK I SAY. WORK." Continues pressing harder on random buttons...breaks it.
Poor iPhone...

Why would they need an iPhone? It's not like they can call their friends, whose parents realize that age is too young to be responsible for a phone!!!

Of course not. Their parents must be pretty bold to let their child get ahold of such expensive technology. I recommend they buy a tablet specially designed for children.

What happened to kids wanting to play? I didn't like technology when I was four. Probably didn't even understand it

No, unless you have lots of money to throw away because a 4 year old would probably brake it or throw it not understanding it's not a toy.

My Aunt's friend has a baby it's definitely under 4 and it can scroll through options on their phone, I'm pretty sure it doesn't eaxactly know what it's doing but that's not the point....do I think it's ABSOLUTELY ridiculous - YES........and 4 year olds don't need a phone either......

No 1) waste of money 2) 98% chance if damage or broken 3) to young 4) cause damage to their eyes 5) don't get them addicted

Well I know a 4 year old that uses her mom's iPhone and iPad, but a 4 year old shouldn't have an iPhone/iPad just for him/her

I don't think that exposing any one at any age to "social media" is healthy. I sure don't think it's a healthy start for a 4 year old. How about Sesame Street so he can learn something besides what Snookie is doing.

Only if the child has lazy parents who use the devises as a babysitting tool.

That's a bit much, there Are plenty of actual games a kid that age could be using that would also give educational values. I think a lot of it is just laziness on parents parts. when you buy an iPhone or iPad the first initial setup steps a child could never figure out, even so, have you ever seen one preprogrammed with Sesame Street, or anything like that? no. parents who do that are usually either too absorbed to find out what their kids need or they do it for a status symbol.

No, because they will not know how to use it correctly and it will most likely get damaged, even with a case.
