How do I get my puppy to stop chewing everything?

I tell him NO and STOP every time but he keeps doing it. He already has chew toys but he doesn't use them very much. What should I do? Please no physically abusive suggestions!

Contact a trainer in your area, and ask them if perhaps they would be willing to give you some "hints". I did this with my dog about another issue, and you would be surprised at how many will do it.(and not charge you just for advice) Also, try a dog groomer, the humane society, or even a vet. You will be amazed at how many animal lover's will help you out, even if they are a professional. I would say try chew toys until you find one your puppy likes or gets used to.

I had the same problem, silly solution. Rub butter on the spots the puppy usually chews. Puppies don't like butter. Lol

Are you serious? Something tells me that that is a bad solution to this person's problem/question. My dogs have eaten butter like junkies waiting for their next heroin fix! Well, now that I think about it, it might not be that bad of a solution if all they do is LICK the items the butter is on. Or perhaps you mean put butter on the items the puppy could chew on?

Your dogs are rather unique. I work as an assistant dog trainer and most puppies don't like butter. Dogs are different however for with age comes new taste buds. :)

you train him, kinda like you would potty train him. reward good behavior and when he's chewing your furniture of something use a spray bottle or something to show him that its wrong.buy him chew toys, and set them in a specific/safe place. You can also do it by smell.Dogs have sensitive smell.Spray the places you dont want him to touch with an unattractive smell, and he wont want to go there.Put treats in his toys and he'll be more likely to go there. :) hope this helps. i can answer any other questions you have about this,so please ask! :)

Puppies chew because they are teething and need to chew. My nieces puppy has even chewed on their wall putting holes in it. (not corners...in the middle of a wall) My brother-in-law put tobasco sause on the spots he chews and this helps him to stop in that area. Try that. And, buy him chew toys.

Puppies chew... Don't give him too many toys at once. They get distracted and bored. The rawhide bones last the longest and keep puppies occupied. No shoes or socks. They will always think they are toys ! Kong Brand tough rubber toys with peanut butter inside is a must! Good luck. :)

Puppies are teething; they chew. There is a spray you can get that tastes awful; one brand is called Bitter Apple. It doesn't stain; you spray it on whatever you don't want the pup to chew (renewing it often). It has a distinct odor, so the pup will recognize the smell and know not to chew those items because they will taste bad. If you get it on your hands, wash it off before you eat. It's non toxic, but you don't want to taste it.

I really do not know other than chew toys and discouragement from the items you do not want the puppy chewing on. Rawhide is one solution. Pig Ears might be another. That is one of the hazards of having a cute little puppy: There are going to be things chewed up, that will severely test your patience. You may want to leave your $1,200 high heels out of reach.

He is probably teething. Get a Kong and put some plain yogurt and some food in it and freeze it. Give him the frozen Kong. The cold will help soothe with the teething and yogurt and food acts as a treat.

Deep dark has a good idea. Bitter apple works well !! No pain, no harsh reprimands. If all else fails, you may have to buy, rent borrow a metal playpen to confine puppy in until it learns what is ok and what is not ok!

buy him a chew toy, or rope. ropes are better for teething puppies, and they last long.

I have a 10 month old Pit bull (Sammie "The Bull") and she loves to chew! It does get better with age! They come to know your commands and know its a bad thing to chew items outside of designated toys/chews. After Sammie chewed my Gucci boots, pillows, slippers, socks & legs on my antique table.....I think were through the worst of it!! :)

There is this spray that you can probably get at your local pet store. You just spray it on the things that your dog keeps chewing. It smells like sour apple and that smells bad to them so they stop chewing on it. Good luck!
