5FDP is right... but, if you are tired all the time, and can sleep much longer than 8 hours every day of the week and are still tired, then this falling thing can also be a sign of sleep apnea. Sleep Apnea is a sleeping disorder where you stop breathing while you are asleep, your body wakes you (just a little bit, you don't even notice once you are sound asleep) so you can breathe.
If you have other symptoms (like tired all the time), you should ask your doctor for a sleep test, as the falling sensation may be your body waking you to breathe. Especially true if you gasp when it happens.
You are leaving your body mentally. When you sleep you dream and when you dream you can travel. It's called astral traveling. And when you're about to wake up your dream spirit self goes back into your body. And when that happens it sometimes wakes you up.
