Because the entire Christian religion is based on the belief that a blood sacrifice was necessary to make up for the horrible crime of humans being born human, for something their ancient ancestors supposedly did. If their Jesus wasn't a real person, the whole thing falls down flat.
Because it shows Gods love for mankind. He.... Himself .... came to cover our sins instead of making each one of us cover our own sins by shedding blood. I remember the scripture that says : What is man that You are mindful of him ?
First, I want to wish you and your family a Happy New Year! Second, the incarnation of God in Jesus is incompatible with the Torah, the Bible, and the Quran, as well as with what Jesus himself proclaimed and stood?for.
My question has always been: if god liked me so much, why didn't just great me better so all the pain and sacrifice wouldn't be necessary? Today's human is not all that better than that of 2000 years ago really. Still greed, greed and greed are ruling the world and it looks like there's no stopping them.
The god must die in order to be re-born. The concept of the cycle of birth, death and re-birth (or resurrection)has been integral to most, if not all, belief systems since the agricultural revolution. The Golden Bough (by Fraser?if memory serves) explores this subject in great depth, if you're interested.

HopeFaithDesire, The Catholic Church's beliefs are based on the Gospel of Peter-that Jesus was the Son of God, and that faith in him would bring in the Kingdom of God on earth. They emphasize His life and that He CAME to save, and they teach what He taught as a man. Others feel that we are to place our faith in the One who DIED to save us. They emphasize worshipping the buried, and then resurrected Lord Jesus Christ, who now sits at the right hand of God the Father, where He is listening to and working out our prayers in heaven. These verses are found in Paul's epistles. God uses so many different ways to draw us to Himself, because we are all so different and need to take the path that speaks Truth to each one of us. Thank you for this thought provoking question, discussions like these bring understanding, and understanding brings peace. Best wishes and Happy New Year! Beth
God did an incredible work in sending His only begotten Son into the world and providing us with a salvation we do not deserve. Praise the Lord for that moment in which "the Word became flesh." We are now redeemed "with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect" (1 Peter 1:19).
