Peter Jackson once said in an interview that he makes changes from the Tolkien books to the screen, for no reason, just for the sake of changing it to make it his. I can understand some changes being made to move the story along or make it better for the screen, but unnecessary changes I don't like. There was no reason for the changes. But as Jackson put it, he made the changes because he could, but not for any other reason, than to serve his vanity. And at the point, and that point alone, he compromised the quality of the films, and his integrity as a director.
