Can someone help translate this verse in the King James Bible to be more modern so it's easier to understand?

the verse is 1 Corinthians 13:4, 5 KJV
"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;"

Report as

your KJV has been mistranslated, the actual word is Love, not Charity,

and in more modern english, it is closer to this

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

wrong, the latin word for love is Amo, which is what the greek manuscript translates to, the latin word for charity is Sanctimonia, the reason that love is often mistranslated as love, is due to the fact that the meanings are close, but they arent interchangeable, free translations will use charity often times, and the KJV is closer to a free translation than the strict translation, also, since the Catholic Church invented the Bible in 419 A.D. and the Catholic Church is the only one that has possesion of the Vulgate, then we definitly dont have it mistranslated, we have the original manuscripts.

Not fighting. I've seen the way he behaves. It eventually degenerates to him insulting and cussing at women. The link that I posted has a dozen versions to toggle through, and he seems to be bent on being right more than investigating.

here, i have simply stated that versions such as the KJV, ASV, NWT, and the like, are bad translations of the Bible, it isnt an insult or anything like that, just a statement of fact.

ah, i see you are another of those overly self-righteous people, quite annoying actually, thats fine, if you wish to continue using bad translations, and telling the people who get it right, that they are wrong, that's fine with me, if i were you, i would adjust my attitude, but as i cannot help a hopeless cause, i leave you in the most capable hands of St. Jude, good day.

Pray to your idols for your own self.
Report as
its apparent that you misunderstand the idea of the saints, i pray to no idols, i pray to God to assist, and those saints are simply the people he uses to assist, you spoke of being closed minded, it is apparent you are the epitome of such a thing,

Reallly? The dead cannot assist the living. Did you forget there is a chasm which cannot be crossed.
Report as
apparently it can since the angels can visit earth, and as the saints live in heaven with the angels, and have essentially the same corporal being type, then they can do the same thing, and have you forgotten that the power of God is limitless? are you truly so self-righteous and arrogant, as to believe that you know the full extent of the power of God.

Charity suffers long, and is kind; charity does not get jealous, is not "stuck up" behaves itself, (I'm it sure what "speaks not her own"means, sorry.) is not easily incited, and does not think evil.

4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. 5 Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it.

Love is long suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. (NWT)

It means charity is nothing if not giving away wealth to others. It can't be envious because it gives away all it's wealth, it's nature is to suffer for it sooner aid someone else than itself. In short, charity is the opposite of greed.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! (1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NLT)

Here are three common English translations of that same verse to help you out.
-
English Standard: Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; (1 Corinthians 13:4, 5 ESV)-
-
Contemporary English: Love is patient and kind, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do. (1 Corinthians 13:4, 5 CEV)
-
The Message: Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have. Love doesn't strut, Doesn't have a swelled head, Doesn't force itself on others, Isn't always "me first," Doesn't fly off the handle, Doesn't keep score of the sins of others, Doesn't revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7 MSG)

When you give to charity, don't do it for personal recognition or reward. Do it because it's the right thing to do. If you do it for recognition or reward or fame, then that's just Pride, and Pride is a sin.

1 Corinthians 13:4-5
"Love is very patient and kind, never
jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand it's own
way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly
even notice when others do it wrong."
(Living Bible)
