Actually a well bred, well raised fancy rat is a wonderful pet I have had them and have had many friends who have had them and they are actually much less "bitey" than hamsters or gerbils. In fact I can't think of anyone I know personally (and have known a lot) who had rats and had ever been bitten by them. I even had to hurt one of mine to free his leg that he had gotten caught in some wire and he didn't even *try* to bite me and that a stretch even for some dogs. I havent ever kept mice myself but cared for and handled the breeding feeders in HS.. they were always very nice too. Ferrets do smell a bit like skunk but not quite as strong, some people don't mind it.

R they nice n calm and sweet ?
Report as
Mine sure were and all the ones I handled that belonged to friends :) Just be sure when you go to get one that you MAKE the store let you handle it first. Some places are not so great at making sure they handle the small animals and keeping kids from tormenting them... , if they are there for any length of time this can make them very untrusting and scared of humans. So always make them let you hold them.

ferrets are very stinky and require allot of attention and care also big cages.
rats are so cute and full of fun, they are very social and are your garbage can (they will eat anything) and love to hang out with there owner (i recommend a male if you wanna cuddle)
mice are very small and kinda skittish and dont like to be held as much!
so out of these 3 i say rats :3
hope this helps :D

I haven't owned rats or ferrets "yet" lol! But I know mice more than any other pet I've owned! (besides cats and dogs) I would recommend them to anyone if they wanted mice! :D
They're very good starter pets, and they don't smell bad as long as you keep up with cleaning the cage. But something you should know, they are noisier than elephants at night, so it might be a good idea to put it in another room if your a light sleeper. lol.
Hey, let me know if you have any questions about mice! I've owned 16 mice, both pregnant mice, pinkies, and I know allot of other stuff and facts.
Ask away if interested! :D

If your a heavy sleeper than you'll be just fine!
Oh, and your on the right track! Two or more female mice are brilliant, cause they'll have eachother to play with when your not. Also "do not mix males with males 'nor males with females" males vs males will fight and seriously injure eachother. and males vs females, they will mate and reproduce faster than a week! Its unbelieveable! lolololol
But member, don't overpopulate your mouse cage "suggested a gerbil cage" two or three mice will fit just fine in one of those cage. Anything else you want to know? :D

Ferret or rat, both tend to smell and have a slightly oily feel to their fur, our rat hates baths and hurts like heck when he bites. We've had ferrets and I found them so much more comical as pets, the stuff they get into is just amazing. Ferrets litter pans stink if you don't keep after them but there are things you can give them to help lower the smell of their waste. But ferrets are really sensitive to heat, if they get overheated they can't cool down and can die. Just be sure they're kept in a place that can't get real hot.

Cool thanks but do all rats bite ?
Report as
No, I doubt it, ours didnt bite at first but as he got older he got more possessive of his cage, once outbid the cage he's cool, but gettin him out requires very thick gloves and bravery!
Report as
Ferrets bite too but it's more playful like when a kitten or puppy nips at you, our 1 ferret loved to chase your toes.

Ferrets are good pets, but they need lots of attention and can be very destructive.Life expectancy is short for any of these because they are prone to developing tumors and other health issues.Rats are really at risk.Ask a vet. They will confirm.

We have a ferret~He is so much fun when we let him out to play! He jumps around like Bambi playing with toys & our dog. Very amusing & so loveable! He only has a slight odor that doesn't bother me in the least. I am, personally, a cat lover, but this ferret reminds me a kitten.. You should read about them on line & then decide if a ferret would be the right pet for you.
