Does the brand matter when buying a cast iron pan?

Report as

I think seasoning is more critical. My personal chef/boyfriend has the lodge brand (which I think is just a cheap-o brand you can get from target or something). I am always impressed by how well the pan works :)

Thanks lalalauren! I'm so tired of spending too much money on kitchen wares that we don't end up using a lot so this is very helpful. Our non-stick teflon pan will need to be replaced soon so I'm starting to look at more environmentally (and durable) alternatives.

You should try a restaurant supply store. There are a few in oakland (http://www.eastbayrestaurantsupply.com/) They have really great non-stick pans for cheap. We have one non-stick pan (good for tofu) and one cast iron pan on our stove top at all times.
