What gives more value to the currency of a country?

Example, why is the dollar more than a peso, or an euro more than a dollar? What gives each countries currency more value than others?

The economy, also the treasury of gold. The US dollar is a paper note that is printed over gold, basically because gold is heavy we have dollar units to represent gold units.

So the more 'gold' (ingots) a country has, the more secure we could say the paper money is= more value?

The US currency is no
longer backed by gold, so your answer is somewhat misleading at best.

Okay, so now we pretend money is actually worth something when it is actually worthless paper according to Taber.

The strength of the dollar, as I know it, is based on how strong our economy is. There are several other factors that economists use as a gauge, such as the GNP (gross national product) or the current debt ceiling etc. Once upon a time the dollar was printed against the amount of gold the country held at Fort Knox. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.
