I'm totally torn between the marines and army, which one?

I have great offers from both with the army I'm eligible for an option 40 and I would like nothing more to be a ranger and the army says, since I still gotta finish highschool I could rank up before going in I think he said as high as PFC or specialist in the marines I'm eligible for a uz contracts and I've heard the recon marines are bad ass when I asked about ranking up he said possible but unlikely, which I don't mind what rank I go in, its just two great offers and I don't know which one to go for

Lol, if you're in it for the benefits join the Army
I guarantee you your recruiter won't give you what he promised

I am married to a marine but my father was army and my son has chosen to go army. Both have been very good to our family, but I will admit that I am so happy that my son chose army and the other son is navy.

Well, look into the roles and responsibilities of each branch. Which one would you most like to serve for?

well the army rangers are bad and elite and they go before any main force is deployed but that's kinda of the same as marine recon who are bad in their own sense the real difference is rangers are trained for combat and recon is taught to not fire a shot unless you have to and I heard that if a single shot is fired the mission is deemed a failure and id like more of a combat role so

I think the Navy Seals are the most elite we have. But I think hes better off going to college first. Then there would be more opportunities than enlisting.

I never said I didn't plan on going to college:) I said that was a secondary for joining the military, and the navy seals are overrated I think:) not bagging on them but there not as glamorized as everyone would like to think, the reasons the seals have so much accomplishments is they always have operatives in the right place at the right time, and they can do so because you don't have to be in the navy to join them, you can join them as a civilian and their hollywood roles keep young people pouring into it especially now a days, not saying there not bad, but just over glamorized
Report as
and what most people don't knoe there were some rangers a few miles away on the osama bin laden rade ready to back up the seals if something went wrong

You are better off going to college first, then joining the military.

yeah my main reason for joining the marines was because of the badass title. choose your main reason for joining, if it be a challenge or money for college, each branch has different incentives. I leave for bootcamp june 10th, and so far i would not change my branch for anything :)

goodluck to you, and its not for college that's more of a secondary or third part I've always wanted the military its my dream, and I've always had that I want to do special forces mentality but I think most people do, and that's one of the main reason I want to join the marines too because the title marine in itself is just great, goodluck to you again btw, ill ne shipping after I finish highschool whatever I choose:)

If I were thinking about joining I would go to college first. There are more opportunities for college graduates then for enlisted soldiers. Better pay, and better benefits. You should never trust a recruiter. THey will fill your head with pie in the sky promises they have no intention or ability to fulfill. Their job is to do everything and anything, including lying or exaggerating a recruits opportunities to get people to join up. Recruiters lie all the time about what an applicant's opportunities are. If I ever go to the military it will be after I graduate so I can enter as an officer. But I doubt I will ever join. I hear Marines get the worst food and the worst gear, and the hardest PT. They are sort of the red headed step child of the Navy, or so I hear. I also hear the AIr Force has the best food and pay. My grandfather was a Captain in the Air Force that's what he told me.

I'm not looking for it easy, and while I know recruiters will do anything to get you to sign up I don't think the recruiters are lying to me the marine one was telling me how it is and that if I wanted to join I had to lose weight the army guy said army basic wasn't as tough as marine but ranger school is hell from day one, so its not like they were glamorizing them or anything
