Where in the Bible is blasphemy defined? Does God forgive blasphemy?

(Looking for scripture help.) Is it blasphemy if, for instance, I see/hear something and I think it's from Satan, but really it's from God? Or if Satan puts something in my mind and I think it's God's counsel?

Hi, Marcus:) I have always seen blasphemy as anything that mocks or makes light of sacred and spiritual things in terms of God, His son, and the Holy Ghost (or Holy Spirit), or anything that is meant to be Holy in those regards. According to my bible dictionary, blasphemy generally denotes contemptuous speech concerning God, or something that stands in a sacred relation towards God, such as the temple, his law, or his prophet. Jesus in the bible, on several accounts, was accused with blasphemy. Such as Matthew 9:3, or Luke 5:21, because He called himself the son of God. The charge against Him would have been blasphemy, if it was in fact true.
.
As far as if blasphemy can be forgiven, Matthew 12:31-32 reads that blasphemy can be forgiven, but blasphemy of the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven in this world, nor the world to come. In terms of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, I have read and been taught that that means to receive a greater witness of Christ, and to completely deny or rebel against it. One would have to have a complete or almost completely perfect knowledge, and just turn against it, or deny it, or sin against it.
.
As far as the thoughts thing, I believe, while satan knows our weaknesses, and can tempt us, our thoughts are our own, and he cannot put thoughts into our head. And all good things are of God, all wicked and bad things, are of the devil. There be no mistaking good things to be of the devil, or bad things, to be of God. And God gave each of us an ability to discern between the two.
.
Hope I helped :) sorry, I tried to condense it, but have lots of thoughts on this topic, lol. xD Anyway hope I helped :)

Very helpful, Shaylen. But what do you mean in that part about having a complete understanding of the Holy Spirit and turning against it? You mean going in another direction from it?
Report as
Essentially. By perfect understanding, I mean a perfect knowledge. Not having faith or a testimony, but knowing. There is a scripture that reads "of much is given, much is expected". If we had a perfect understanding of Heavenly Father, a lot more would be expected of us, we would be held far more accountable than someone else. To have such a great knowledge, and to deny Christ and God, to disobey, and so on, would be blasphemy of the Holy Ghost. The prophets weren't perfect, but a LOT more was expected of them. They didn't need to excersise faith, they KNEW. I don't think most of us have to worry about blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. But you'd have to be pretty wicked, to have such a great understanding, and turn against it. But Heavenly father doesn't require us to have a perfect knowledge, he requires us to have faith, and to excersise it. But God knows how much each of us can handle, and how much is too much. That would be a big expectation for most of us.

Opps, AND not but (typo)

If you're ever able to email again, could you tell me? I don't expect anything, just asking.
Report as
No problem, Marcus :)
.
Tell you what? I'm still on break till about the 15th, I believe, so it's not like I'm busy with school, I could make an exception for one time :)
Report as
What's your email again?
Report as
Oh duh blonde moment :P tell you if I could email, got it. It's nothing against you, I don't know why I get anxious and feel like I need to respond to people right away- but if I'm drawing, or doing hw- I have a hard time relaxing because I feel like I need to answer right away. But I was going to make an exception one time, cause I haven't been able to draw, and I'm not in school, but I think you kept responding to slow, or something, or went to bed. But yea, I'd/I'll let you know :)
Report as
I know yours, that's all that matters :P I'm worried about someone seeing my email. If I decide one time, how about I just email you?
Report as
What? I don't understand. But nevermind, I don't want to make you anxious. Sorry for responding slow before.
Report as
You didn't! It's only during those times, so why I'd have to suggest it. Haha, sorry if I'm not making sense, Multi-tasking and got a lot on my mind.
Report as
So you can email, or you can't?
Report as
sure, why not? :) Would you like to email now?
Report as
If it's not a burden on you. If you don't want to than don't!
Report as
It's not a burden for right now, if you want to. I just might not be able to talk for too long, since it's already starting to get late, if that's ok!
Report as
Then hurry! :P

Lol! Ok! :P *30 minutes later*

It was one of the 7 laws given to Noah after the flood. it was in hebrew and it translates to "don't disgrace/curse god's name"'which is essentially blasphemy.

No blasphemy is when someone says something about one persons religion that one person believes is untrue, usually aimed to be destructive to the other person. For example, is I yelled "YOUR GOD IS FAKE!" at you, that would be considered blasphemy.

Blasphemy is not speaking words. it's an action. it's literally speaking of Denying Christ. God is three God The Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Spirit. Jesus told His disciples when I go i will send you a comforter The Holy Spirit. Denying the power thereof is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit Anything you do can be forgiven though true repentance but if you die rejecting Jesus you cannot be forgiven because you are dead and the dead can't speak or repent.

Our spirits live on. We are not perfected in this life, but in the next. And Jesus's atonement is infinite. Our spirits never die.

That's right our spirit does live on. It either goes to Heaven or Hell.
