Why does a compose always face north ?

i dont understand why does it pint north people say its a magnet but there is no magnet in the Earth.

There is a magnetic field around the earth from a very large iron deposit near the north pole. It is magnetic and since it is not exactly on the north pole, there is a difference between magnetic or compass north and true north. The amount of this difference varies depending where you are on the planet. hope this helps

They will if you magnetise them. Try swiping a nail with a magnet then dangle it from a thread and watch it point north.

It's because of the earths core that it makes it point north some say it will change and point south eventually

Well, the inner and outer core of the earth are made of metal which makes a magnetic field around the earth. This magnetic field is so strong that it pulls on the magnets inside the compass and pulls it to the north side. one of the main reasons that the core is so strong is because the molten metals inside it are going through convection. That magnifies the magnetic field. You know how a magnet is made up of a south and north side? Well, the side that points north on the compass is a south magnet and the other side is a north one.
The sides contradict with the actual direction and shows which way your facing. That's why a compass always faces north.
