Should I go to college or should I just start working?

Because most of my family and friends are up to their eyeballs in debt (even with scholarships) and I don't know if I want to risk putting all this work into something that may not only not help but, in the end, hurt me. Suggestions please! Thank you.

Go to college, the experience alone is enough of a reward.

Yes, go to school, at-least try it, if it's not for you then you can go out and grind at work.

There's no way it will hurt you, it can only help. You're guaranteed to have an easier time finding a job with a degree, assuming you don't go with a worthless degree like English or something... Take my word for it, get a Computer Science degree, you'll get a job, guaranteed.

It's hard to get a good job in this economy. It's better to go to school and wait for the economy to get better and then get a job in the field you studied.
The rewards will be exponentially greater.

College is the best choice! Plus, the experience is well worth it. I loved college so much. Now I'm in medical school so it's not much fun anymore. But yea, go to college and gain experience so you get a better career which equals more money. You'll regret it if you don't. :) good luck!

Lol you answered my question but it got deleted...? What were you cursing me out?! Because in that case you have some strong opinions about halloween costumes....! :DogsCanTalk:

Lol nah I was talking about my Halloween costume this year but I guess it was too graphic. Ma bad. However, I liked your idea about big bird. I have no creativity what so ever so I'll just buy mine. Which is more disturbing than big bird :)
Report as
O_O I don't want to know your "graphic" halloween costume. But yeah I was gonna be small bird but you know no one would know what I was. They'd be like "Hey! You look so awesome! You're....a.....tweeeeee......eeeeeetyyyy.....yyy.....'sssss cousin?" So yeah big bird is a little easier. I looked up some pictures of the guy and he has like these blue lined eyes and pink eye lids so I guess I'll have to buy some blue eye liner and pink eye shadow. :Partay:

someone can give you money, or a job. someone can take your money, or your job. an education can never be taken. don't go into debt though. I recommend getting general requirements and a basic skill through an associates degree from a community college. then decide what you wanna do next. especially if you're going to go to college do it while your young. if you did well enough to get scholarships I hope that you will utilize scholarships and grants to go. also there's nothing wrong with trade school.

by the way I'm in my forties I graduated with a bachelors of science in chemistry in 2004. it also kinda depends on where you live. I'm told there's nothing here for me but I'm stuck because I have a kid in school. I cant get a job at the local hospital because I'm not a mt or mlt. there was no mt or mlt program here. I would've had to moved away to get certification in city that offered the certification. also when you're over 40 age discrimination can be an issue. it just looks best if you go to college and graduate before you are 30.

Absolutely great advice! If I'd seen it before I answered I'd've said " what she said".

Going to college is expensive and while you're first starting out the debt does seem daunting.
BUT IT IS WORTH IT.
So many more opportunities become available to you when you go to college. People you meet, classes you take will broaden your horizons, & what you want now, may not be what you want in a year or two.
If your unsure, & since cost is an issue, consider starting at a junior college. Start all your general education requirements. You'll get the same information for less than you do at the universities or state colleges. And sometimes you will have an instructor who teaches at both.
Some colleges ( junior too) offer internships for school credit. You can look into more than one field, if you find it necessary, while getting practical application skills.

I've gone on a bit, I believe a college education is important and that you limit yourself If you close that door.

I hope this information helps you. Good Luck.

College for sure - computer science is the future - OR a medical degree of any kind. Those are the 2 areas where the work force will always be in demand for educated people. You can always get work with computer training or medical training. Be picky -
Choose well
