What is the purpose of battle pets in World of Warcraft?

Aside from fighting other battle pets and having an easy way to collect pets, is there more to it?

I think that was such a silly thing to add. But hey, whatever floats Blizzards boat! xD I think the point is just to get people more into the game in a different way. Capturing/looking for them helps you explore places you may not have gone before, and having them opens up daily quests and other stuff. I guess all around, they're an okay thing to add to the game. Seeing as how it gets you more exp, different rewards, and it created new achievements for us to earn. Not to mention they're cute xD

Oh they are definitely cute and I am a total girl when it comes to collecting them and naming them. :P I am back on a 10-day pass checking out the Pandaren and after finishing the new area I have been wasting my time with pets. I probably should dust off a higher level and see what else is out there.

Haha yeah, I've always loved any time of pet in-game. :b I haven't played in about a year, but my highest/main character was a hunter, so I always liked getting different pets :b then getting all the companions on different classes was fun. now it's these little guys! xD they're all so cute haha c: I like that they you can access them on all of your different characters. :b and the cap IS 90 now. c:

Hunters rock! The new monk was fun, but there is just something about having a pet that fights for you during battle. I also enjoyed the hunter traps.

So much has changed since I played. They have made things easier.

Yes, they definitely have. Which I guess is good for bringing new people in. A lot of people don't want to have to learn all the little things you need to to play certain games. But I liked it when it wasn't easy. I like challenging things xD on one hand I kind of like it, because hey, it's easy. On the other hand, the game was more fun before all of the most recent changes, and I'm just like grrr, I had to do things the hard way! >.< haha I still love it though c:

I agree. I am having a hard time with the new way the skills work. It seems it is just all automatic, but I miss my tree. :P I feel like I am missing out.

Yeah it looks like it. I didn't play much but everything for the monk I had filled automatically. Maybe later on you can choose. I liked picking. More points here than here, no some need to be here. :P I picked just based on how cool the talent sounded. LOL but I was having fun so why not?

I usually only play now when I get a free 10-day pass. Right now just checking out the new race. I think my highest level is a 73 maybe. I haven't played steadily for quite awhile. Isn't the cap now 90?
