HIV stands for: human immunodeficiency virus AIDS stands for: acquired immunodeficiency syndrome HIV attacks a specific group of limfosit T and causes problem in body's Immune system. so people die because immune system can not work properly.
HIV is the virus that becomes AIDS. You can have the virus and still not have AIDS. You do not have AIDS until your T-cell count reaches a certain point. You should also note that you do not die from AIDS; you die from complications CAUSED by AIDS (heart failure, pneumonia, etc). It is also good to note that AIDS is no longer the death sentence it once was. With the right treatment, those with HIV live long healthy lives.
HIV is a virus that attacks the CD4 T lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that plays a major role in the functioning of the immune system. Eventually the HIV kills off such a significant number of CD4 T cells that the immune system becomes weakened. And when the CD4 count becomes less than 200/uL the extent of the infection is classified as AIDS. SO while someone who is HIV positive may not have AIDS, HIV is the end result of exposure to the HIV.
