Well Herobrine started as a creepypasta, it said that he saw a player in single player and he emailed Notch to ask if he had a brother, then Notch replied "I did, but he is no longer with us". The story was very popular, bugging Notch to the point of him admiting that he never had a dead brother. As for Steve...uh... He is a human in Minecraft...yeah.

they are disstant lovers, but herobrines father would not allow it so it turned to forbidden love, and then it turned into hate.
