Why does more fertilizer make water green?
im doing a lab and i need to know why fertilizer makes pond water so green.
It is the phosphates in the fertilizer. Algae exist in pond water and the fertilizer causes a growth surge of this algae plant. It is the plant that is green not the water, it is deceiving sometimes. Some high phosphate detergents do this too.
without research I would assume the fertilizer encourages algae growth
the chemicals in the fertilizer react with the water making it green
It should not make pond water green, only grass. Why would you put fertilizer in a pond anyway? Maybe algae growth but it should be a light green in the pond not a dark green.
