Could you possibly tell me what this sentence means?

sentence: She grew up to be a pretty woman.

(could you please elaborate your explanations and give me some simple answeI mean I am learning English.).

It sounds like an ugly duckling story to me.

"She" refers to a girl or young lady. The sentence is in past tense. So as "she" got older, she became a pretty woman. "Pretty" can also be "beautiful."
