How can I get the dandruff off my horse's coat?

My horse doesn't have the greatest hair and she is blanketed all winter (only because otherwise she shivers) and she has really bad dandruff in her mane and in patches around her body. How can I get it off her hair because she is black so it looks like she is just dusty. Is there any brushing methods to get it off? I can't wash her because she would literally freeze solid.

my horses does kind of the same thing just not as bad. its probably dry skin not dandruff so its probably just this time of the year if you call your vet she might have something for it other wise i would brush out as much as possible and then just wait till it gets warm enough to wash it all the way out.

The real problem is her skin is dry, perhaps because of the season. Maybe linseed oil in her food would help. But don't bathe her!

Curry the mess out of it (base of the mane too)
Your best shot is a vacuum. Before we got the horse vacuum we have now I went to goodwill and bought a canister vac. We introduced the horses to it and used it in winter.

Wat tell summer then wash her. She will have dandruff and did because she will roll in the dirt. Even those you have a blanket on her she will get dirty. I learned that with my horses.
