What will happen when the sun reaches its red giant phase?

Will Earth survive, will it blow up, things like that?

scientist believe that the orbits of mercury and venus will get engulfed by the sun, 3billion years from now. its possible by that time, the earth will orbit the sun in what will be by then, the suns corona (atmosphere). in a about 2.8ish billion years from now the sun will expand to a point where even before it reaches venus, the suns heat will become too much for what will be an even more fragile earth. the moon will be orbiting by a thread, the atmoshphere will deteriorate along with the ozone. oceans will evaporate and earth will become a dessolate cinder.

Salsander

It will blow up into a supernova and yes, our solar system won't survive. The earth will probably die earlier from the sun's increasingly stronger heat waves. Don't worry, we still have 5 million years to live. :)

super nova dont blow up, there is no explosion. they implode and in any case, the sun is too small and too young for a super nova. when it reaches its red giant phase, it will eventually cool down and shrink, becoming a "black dwarf"

It will become thousands of times hotter than it is now, it will swell up and evaporate and absorb mercury,Venus, and earth.after millions of years as a red giant it will shrink and cool.it will end up as a ball of pure carbon about the size of our present earth. Some scientists say its possible it will be a trillion, trillion, trillion carat diamond , remaining for unknown billions of years. but that's around 6 billion years away.

Actually it will cool, when it expands

When it finishes expanding it will cool, during the expansion it will heat up.
