Some were never raised in a religious home environment, others might have suffered something terrible and lost whatever little they might have had. Still others approach it on a purely scientific level which leaves no room for faith.. Lots of different possibilities.
Faith is not a virtue, faith is what you need to believe something that isn't true. Faith is what you are asked to have when you are being conned. Being asked to have faith is a huge red flag in any area of life except religion?
When you look at religion with a critical eye rather than faith, it is readily apparent that it is absurd, dangerous nonsense.
Faith can mean different things to different people with different beliefs and values. One might believe that faith is believing in their heavenly father, while the other may believe that faith means hope, or counting on the unseen and the unknown and knowing that one way or another everything will be ok. Simply believing in the good and dismissing the bad.
Evidence is the reason to believe- not the absence there of. It's like when you realize you have no good reason to believe in Santa Claus any more- and it's not because your parents stopped giving you presents
No civilization can survive unless its people have faith on each other. Imagine a society, where no one has faith on each others. There can be no family, no society and no nation. Children shall grow of their own with no help from elders. People have to guard themselves as they can not trust anyone not can expect help from anyone. Each person would follow his own will and sail his own boat. There would be no love and cohesion in the society and you can't even share your house with any other individual. Such society is bound to disintegrate and submerged to chaos.
In the very beginning it was formulated for the purpose of population or crowed control. As time has gone on this concept has failed miserably. In time there will be no more religion and less people will have to die. And that's a goooooood thing. Unfortunately you won't see this in your life time. As long as many people gather in one place (church) they can be targeted. Population control. (or) Thinning out the herd.
because sometimes its easier to just not believe opposed to believe. thats the thing with my brother. me it's just that so many bad things have happened to so many people that i find it hard to believe. bad things happen to every body that i know. my best friend tries to commit suicide every day because her parents abuse her. i just think that if god was real that more people wouldn't be as miserable. i dont believe in god but i believe in faith and you choose your own faith and i believe that what you do even if it's deciding when to go pee it effects the world dramatically.
According to a survey by the Pew Forum, about 90% of the U.S. population is theist. That doesn't sound like many people not having faith. It sounds like almost everyone has faith in one deity or another. Curious what the OP's sources are.

I believe in a creator, faith is another thing,in that I have no idea what the creators intentions are.my faith, or lack of it is based on things, and people I can interact with on a daily basis. faith to some is based on ancient and unproven writings. I can't except that
if you are talking about religion, then some people don't have faith because they want proof of existence. other people may have experiences where they feel like " god wasn't there" and some people may have been taught to not follow religion. whatever it may be, people have their reasons/opinions on religion, so it's a personal thing.
