Which religion interests you the most?

Report as
Incredubella

Religion is a violent system that destroys and breaks down societies. Examples: Christ... crucified by religious readers. Crusades.... killed many with opposing views.... Syria, Iran, 9/11, Airline hijackings, Greedy empires like Rome.
Spirituality, Okay.... Religion..... I don't think so!

@ Incredubella,
You hit the nail on the head. Spirituality is the key. BUT, there is a true spiritual way, only one way, one road.
What are your views?

Shay, I'm Christian.. But not a hippo-critical one. No label, and no nonsense. Mostly not perfect, but perfected by Christ.

If you ever get a chance, Find a copy of "The song of the Bird" written by Anthony De Mello, SJ. He was a Jesuit missionary who really stepped outside the box.
He respected all faiths. And he wasn't all that enthused by religion.

Alright, that sound interesting.

Agreed Buddhism is fascinating, But like all religions has it's quirks. My good Buddhist friend who Came to the US as a refugee from Cambodia was disowned by her family because she was dating a Japanese Buddhist.

Islam interests me. That has such a large following, it would be interesting to know what all those people are thinking and believing. And a comparison to Christianity would be of interest. All good stuff.

I think that Neo-Pagan, Greek Myth & Wicca is interesting along with Fates/recantations. Though I'm not practicing anything as of late, just looking up random facts

Depends on what you mean by interest.

I find Buddhism and Taoism interesting philosophically and far more tenable than the Abrahamic religions.

I find Norse, Greek, and Egyptian religion/mythology interesting for their poetic stories and sagas.

I find Christianity "interesting" in that I have trouble understanding how a belief system so logically untenable survived. I also have an interest in watching them since, as an American, the adherents of that religion often seek to affect the lives of all with their beliefs.

I must say, skeptickitten has a point. I first I was going to say Christianity; as this is we're I find my truth. But after reading her response, I do find myself intrigued with other religions for one reason or another. Maybe it is my cultural anthropologist coming out. God bless.

I think it's important to separate the faith itself from the ways some choose to practice it when we evaluate religions. I think all religious are interesting in and of themselves, just because they exist.
But I also realize that many evil things have been done in the name of religion. Those who founded those religions or whose teachings those religions are based on would probably be horrified by some of the things that have been done supposedly for the religious cause.
Much good has also been done as people seek to live out their faiths. It's sad that too often the bad seems to outweigh the good.

I used to work with.a Zoroastrian (they call themselves Zartushties) and we had many conversations about his religion. At NO time did he try to convert me or convince me. Zartushties don't proselytise. It was just conversation and information. That was more than twenty years ago but some of the things he told me about his faith and mode of worship were intriguing.

I think this is also why Buddhists and Shintoists never seem to have a problem with anyone else regarding religion.

Probably right, Yos. I have a JayDub friend who once asked me to come in his car while he went shopping for something. It was an odd request but I went anyway. His son was in the back seat and as soon as we got under way he said, "What religion do you follow, Dodgy?"

That's when the penny dropped. We'd had that conversation many times before and he was showing the kid how to convert people. So I said, "I follow the old religion," and launched into a spiel about witchcraft.

He changed the subject and didn't mention it again.
Report as
JayDub's are the easiest to get rid of though right? They used to approach me while I was waiting for my boss to come and open up where I worked. They always asked if would like something to read. I said "Oh thanks, but I have something already" then I promptly showed them whatever current horror story I was reading. They would always walk away.
Report as
Gotta agree. They DO know how to take No for an answer. Some of the others are much more persistent.

I believe in the Christ, Y'shua. Although, I find this difficult to answer. I am not religious, I do not like doctrines, they fool & control people, robbing them or the truth.
I believe in one source of all that exists. Only one. Everything comes from him, he is positive energy in pure form. Nothing within "this" force is negative.
To me that one is a spirit. Just like we & all living souls have a spirit.
I believe angels exist. Pure ones & impure.
So, my Alpha is the father of Abraham. He, to me is everything pure, perfect, positive, holy. I see him & I love him.
I know he regrets things that have happened, I know he's sorry. His purpose was for GOOD. It was not his plan for evil to be upon us.
Sorry to those that don't want to hear this. I do not believe in "hell", eternal torment. Everlasting life in perfection is what I see. & how does anyone have the right to say who will live or die.
Peace.
