Tammy made an interesting point about sexual mistreatment being a part of it.
I had a young friend (she's still a friend, but no longer young) who found it almost impossible to say no. I don't know whether she could officially be classified as an addict but she was certainly indiscriminate -- sometimes surprisingly so.
As a 12 year-old she was abused over a period of several years by an older family member. She didn't see it was abuse -- she was a kid, and sex was exciting -- but it coloured her life and her later attitude to sex.
She finally found her feet and is now living a normal life -- and she did it without the help of a therapist.
Absolutely. It ruins the lives of people with this addiction. Usually these people have had horrible and neglectful childhoods and they are addicted to the attention. They feel worthless and immoral after and usually during the act. It's actually quite sad.
No it isn't. It is just an invention of tabloids that the fashionable members of the psycho---putanywordhere have sanctioned as a disorder very rich guys who can pay suffer now and then. For the regular guy, he is just a &@?%# cheating bastard! He cannot pay for the "relabelling"
