Can my sister kick my bf and I out of the apartment? Without warning she said we had two weeks to find a new place.

We made an agreement to pay 150 a month, which we have paid every month since we've move in. We are not on the lease.

Report as

Because you are not on the lease, she does have a right to kick you out. Start looking for a new place, and ask your sister for a little more time, if possible.

Since you have already paid your monthly rent, she has no right to kick you out until the two weeks you had agreed upon are over. Just try to calmly reason with her about letting you stay a little longer as you look for another apartment of your own.

Even if you are not on the lease, if you have been living and receiving mail there, then she would need to follow proper eviction procedures for the state that you live in.

The laws concerning tenancy vary greatly from place to place. You need to talk to a local attorney to find out what your options are.

There are legal avenues that you could use to buy you more time, but what do you think it would do with the relationship that you have with your sister? Sounds like its already on shaky ground.

To be honest while living at this apartment my sister has broken 3 rules of the lease not including us living there. I have evidence of all of this and plan to show the landlord as soon as we move out. She's supposed to be family and is treating me lie a stranger on the street. She's screwing me over and im not going to wait for Karma to maybe do it's job. Shes kicking me out on the streets

I cook, clean, and practically raise my nephews who live there as well while she smokes pot, parties, and spends all her child support and government assistance on tattoos and a new phone. Meanwhile while my boyfriend and I work our asses off on minimum wage to come home to an ungrateful psycho. And i'm the moocher? Oh yes. I shouldnt get upset. This was a general question and you dont know anything about my situation.
Report as
Well o know your angry enough to get out of that situation and not look back now... Good luck
Report as
I'm sorry for responding so sharply. You're right. I will not look back when we do move. It's just that we are young, no credit, no place to go, no money.
Report as
Hon its happened to me too when I was young.. but you have a partner so your not alone and you have 2 weeks..
You will bounce back and be better off for this

in georgia, it doesnt matter if youre on lease. if youre living there you are required written 30 day notice.

Do you have anything in writing , do you have canceled checks or recites for the money you've paid ? I think she had to give you 30 days in writing .

Actually she needs to follow eviction procedures in the state you live. But causing a big fight might not be the best thing for your relationship, after all she will always be your family. Try to talk to her, tell her you'll help out more, which you should be doing anyways, try to work things out, I'm sure she will listen if you make an effort to talk to her calmly.

Our relationship is already permanently damaged. There's no fixing it. but this is what I told another person who answered my question and called me a moocher "I cook, clean, and practically raise my nephews who live there as well while she smokes pot, parties, and spends all her child support and government assistance on tattoos and a new phone. Meanwhile while my boyfriend and I work our asses off on minimum wage to come home to an ungrateful psycho. "

Wow, Hollie, I think it would be wise for you and your boyfriend to move. I know times are hard, but you'll be miserable if you stay there much longer. Check out some studio apartments they usually include the heat and water, this way you'll only have one bill to worry about each month and be a lot happier. Good luck to you and your boyfriend.

I'm not sure, but I'm thinking you and your bf have overstayed your welcome...be a good sister as well as a responsible adult...move out.

I hear you on the responsible adult thing. But as far as being a good sister, pardon my french but hell no. My sister is an ungrateful psycho. I'm wasnt asking this general question because I want to stay with her. I was asking because 2 weeks notice on a fixed income, no credit, and no extra money is just unacceptable. We could do it in 30 days, but 2 weeks?
Report as
Well then tell your psycho sister that
Report as
You know what...I just had a thought...take the 30 days you need to find a place...screw her and her ungrateful attitude. Once you move...report her sorry drug using child neglecting butt.
Report as
Absolutely Truckie, great advice, those kids need to be protected at all cost.
