Sadly, in response to College Humor's recent April Fool's joke on NYC -- where they staged a fake In 'N Out opening in Union Square -- an In 'N Out spokesperson responded as follows:
Gothamist talked to an In-N-Out spokeswoman, who confirmed that "someone is playing a fool's joke on us."
"We're a small, family-owned business out here on the West Coast. We grind all our own all beef patties and deliver them to our locations every day, so because of the logistics it's just not something we're considering."
Jim's answer is a great one, not only in that it talks specifically about their NYC plans, but also because it gives you a flavor of the people behind the company. It really is a family run business. Outsiders are allowed to own an In-N-Out 'franchise', but not before they've worked their way up from working a cashier, to flipping burgers, to managing a store. In-N-Out has never been about growth at any cost; it's always quality first with them. It's probably why they're so loved.
