I honestly think it's wrong if you "don't" put him to sleep.

Hi, Sistergirl! I sent this person a copy of the poem that helped me let my Bostie go in December. But it makes me very, very sad. I'm getting a rescue Chihuahua the end of this month. I was going to keep it as a surprise for everyone, but I'm so sad now that I have to tell so I can cheer up!

Hey that is your decision. If its his time to go and you think he doesn't give a dam one way or another that's between you and your dog.

Ask your vet for his or her opinion. But it sounds like your dog is very old and sick.

16 years? Wow you must have taken real good care of your old friend, yeah, it might be time to say "Good night". Sorry. (If you love your dog like I did my last and current one, you have my deepest sympathies, in fact I feel a stinging in my eyes and nose already.

I KNOW it sux......but it's about the quality of life......and if the dog can't do things as it normally used to......then it is probably time.....8(

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

I know this feeling. We had a 15 yr old chocolate lab. He had to be put down because he could barley walk and he had cancer. If he's in pain, put him in a better, happier, painless place. But ultimately, this is your decision and it will be a hard one...

If he is suffering, yes put him to sleep. He will have a quick death instead of a slow painful one.

He's in pain. I think it's time for him to rest in peace. I'm sorry. :(
