Florida Bowie knife laws?

I know if you're 18 in Florida you can carry a Bowie knife so long as the blade is under 8 inches but where does the measurement start? At the base of the hilt where the steel becomes visible or where the sharp edge actually starts? I want to start carrying mine with me.
