It is a friendly way of greeting their associates in the church, who belong to the same "brotherhood" or "sisterhood", who share the same beliefs, and who may think of themselves as "family" in this shared "brotherhood" or "sisterhood".

Its kinda like this. God is our father. And when you get saved your all Gods children, therefore making a woman my sister and a man my brother.

Though Mormons DO use "Brother" and "Sister" frequently, and perhaps most prevalently, lots of other Christian churches use it as well, including Catholics ("sisters"), many Southern Baptists, and Jehovah's Witnesses.

It's because the church is called to be the "family of God" It's biblical that members of the church treat one another that way, as if they were your brothers and sisters because the bond in the church is supposed to be tight and close knit like a family.

It stems from the belief that we are all children of God (and therefore brothers and sisters to each other). I believe churches also choose to use it as a title because it has a feeling of familiarity attached to it. You're no longer just a member of a church, you're also welcomed as a member of God's family.

Were all Gods children so therefore we are brothers and sisters in Christ. I saw someone say that they've only heard of Mormons saying that but I go to an Assembly of God church (Pentecostal) and people reefer to each other as brother and sister there.

We call each other Brother & Sister as a way to acknowledge that as God's children, we share His blood and are therefore Brethren, part of the same family, the Body of Christ
