My parents don't understand me...

So I've loved music my whole life, and have sang since I started talking and I only want to do that (sing) and I was watching the stupid JB Never Say Never movie and he said how his family always supported him in his musical talent and did everything they could for his music. And I've told my parents how I just need a chance to sing in front of an just an audience to make a small part of my VERY realistic dream to come true. But it seems like they don't think it's possible, they have never let me be me and have forced me to do things that I don't want to do. Like I played viola for almost a year when I absolutley hated it but it made my parents happy, and when I told them I didn't want to do it anymore, they said they were disappointed in me. And that's something that I have tried never to do... WHAT DO I DO????

For some reason, they want you to turn out like them. Just like my parents :(

well first, you can participate in local/school talent shows, that's a first for anyone :)
or you can even record yourself singing and upload it onto youtube...

Well you must remind them it is YOUR LIFE you can do whatever you want. Say "this is what I want to do i want to sing" they should allow you, but if not start on youtube like bieber i would listen.
Good Luck

Show your parents how passionate you are about singing
Join a choir or something
Sing in your schools talent show( if they have one) they can't force you to do something you don't want
Don't let them ruin your dream of becoming a singer

Talent shows, gigs, YouTube, Oprah. That's how it goes

Try putting covers of you singing on YouTube to get an idea of whether or not people like your voice. Always do what you love because it will be very dull otherwise. Also, see if you can get an appreciation for the viola because instruments are very cool as well. My favorite is the cello.

Act inferior. Disobey them. That doesn't nessicarily mean go around town causing anarchy. If you're parents tell you something like "You are going to try out for the mathletes" or "Your father and I have decided that you are going to learn how to play the bagpipes. It would make us happy to have a son/daughter that can play us a tune on the bagpipes", just say you don't want to (unless you want to play bagpipes and join the mathletes). Tell them about the things that you want to do. And tell them about the things that would make you happy. I don't understand why parents wouldn't let you be who you are. That's like telling a tiger to become a bird and fly away. Tell them to give you a chance to be you.

I think they mean well , but at the end if the day it's your life you can't be someone you're not for anyone even your parents , so you gotta step up and stick up for your self because no one know how you feel but you .

Go to the park and just start singing. If you're enthusiastic about it people will like you. Do this on a certain day every week and someone important might hear you.

If they become disappointed just because you don't want to play the violin, then let them be disappointed. It is better to be yourself and be disappointed by your parents than to not be yourself at all. Let them know that it's not you by refusing to play the violin. Let them know how much you HATE playing the violin. Say that you rather be yourself and be disappointed by your parents than to be someone your not. Ask them what kind of parent refuses to believe in their own child. Stand up for yourself as if it were your last chance. And best of all, sing as you do it! (And hopefully they would sing with you and a bunch of people would join... just like in t.v and movies :p)
