There were 332 million cell phone subscribers in the US in June of 2012. That is a better indication of how many people are actually living in the US than govt stats. The number of cell phone users does not include infants and young children who do not have cell phones. So, clearly, there are far more than 332 million people living in the US. Either as citizens, foreign students, on work visas, or illegally. There are an estimated 11 million illegal aliens in the US - but that number may be larger - which accounts for the number being so much higher than 315 million, as others have posted. Additionally, there are about 800,000 foreign national students & hundreds of thousands of people in the US on guest worker visas.
The approixmated number of people that live in the USA as of 2013 is estimated to be more than 315 million people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's estimate, the precise U.S. population was 315,091,138 when the calendar flipped from 2012 to 2013.
