No, Shingles is unrelated to the Herpes viruses. It is related to ChickenPox, if you never had ChickenPox you won't get Shingles as it stays in the system from having ChickenPox for many years before surfacing. There is no vaccine which will protect from Herpes of any kind. Some anti viral drugs can help suppress the symptoms of Herpes type viruses but once you are infected you will always carry the virus in your body and may have periodic outbreaks even with an anti viral suppression therapy.
No. The singles vaccine is for herpes zoster not herpes simplex. The 2 are unrelated. Shingles is the reactivation of the chicken pox virus that lies dormant in your body. Once you have chicken pox, it never truly goes away. there have been several attempts at a herpes simplex vaccine. many have failed. I am not aware of the current status of any in development.
