I see a lot of arguing between very strong Christians and Atheist's (even thou Atheism isn't a religion). I think it's very hard for people from either of these areas to come to terms on anything, because they are both so set in their ways. A Christian maybe looked down upon, by other Christians if they even admit to agreeing in one way or another with an Atheist. Also when people ask questions, a lot of the times Christians try to shove religion down their throats, even if that's not really what they are asking for.

Christianity since most people on here are American and most Americans are christian and since the majority christians share their beliefs and often condemn others, they get the most attention.

Many of the zealots on this website do themselves a disservice by their words and "modeling" of their belief systems. Opposites attract quite often in their mind constructs of right and wrong. The "scientists" throw out the "method" as much as the "enlightened" throw out "the baby with the water".

The Christian fundamentalist zealots on this website drive away the center of Christian believers - primarily using their incessant attacks on atheists and anything they define as " left leaning" politically. They are they authors of their own faith's undoing through alienation of moderate believers. This is nothing new in any religion - throughout history, the zealots will eventually destroy the central tenets of a religion - usually by splintering it into sub-groups or sects.

Wow. But can Christianity splinter any FURTHER?
Report as
All you need is a new interpretation of a Biblical phrase or have a supernatural encounter with God. You then write a book and claim it was divinely inspired - and get a group of people to buy into your claim - and make them evangelists to recruit new members - your ultimate target will be convincing parents to indoctrinate their children to their new cult - which will become a sect once you have enough followers. Make sure you cut deals - promise after-life desire fulfillment - and invent a bunch of rituals and great "holy" costumes - and be sure to include the incessant threat of eternal damnation if any member strays from your cult. Be sure to deny science and pervert education to your advantage - and require donations and tithes - and learn how to speak the many forms of "God Talk" - speak as if you have been spiritually lifted above other humans. You also must viciously attack anyone that questions your dogma, as stated in your "holy book". Deny historicity and re-write history to comply with your new splinter cult's central tenets.

Worked for Mormons!
Report as
It did, but now they are "mainstreaming" themselves as a traditional Christian denomination.
Report as
They deny defining dogma of the cults founders by redefining it as personal commentary of a misguided individual.

Golden plates, magic underwear, the brotherhood of Jesus and Satan, the physical impregnation of Mary, god hood when males die with a whole planet of goddesses to impregnate, backward baptism, invention by a known and arrested con-artist, racism as dogma until the 70's, etc. how could anyone question that this is not God's true religion?

I don't see religion criticized as much as I see people criticized for how they portray their beliefs by using god and Jesus to justify their interpretation of their religion or stance...from both sides.

Christianity. Because it's the truth. and it exposes the sin of man who love darkness rather than the light.

Christians - Why - The sin of Pride. Why fight so hard to deny God if they don't believe He exists? they don't want to be accountable to God for their actions, then it starts to make sense why they try so hard to convince others that God doesn't exist.

Yeah. Why do Muslims fight so hard for what they believe? And Hindus! Why won't they just admit that they KNOW Jesus Christ is Lord? Don't even get me started on all those tribes that worship their ancestors!! They know what's what! It's their PRIDE that gets in the way...

Ridiculous...

Deb, I think it's more about balanced reporting. Just because a certain group believes something is true, doesn't make it a fact. I present the case of Santa Claus. How many under the age of 9 or 10 are convinced he is real, there is certainly lots of evidence. Much like in this case, many people simply outgrow the stories, or find sufficient proof on their own of other truths.

There was a time, Deb, for both of us, when we believed in Jesus, in Santa Claus, in the Easter Bunny, and in the Tooth Fairy. These are all childish beliefs.

Since Christianity is by far the most often discussed, the law of averages prevails. It is fair to say Christianity is also the most frequently praised religion on this site as well.

Zen Buddhism. Why?

I hardly ever see a question on it ?

I criticize Zen Buddhism a lot- but I might be the only one. Buddhism was never about fighting and the zenners dragged it into a war like a bunch of over zealous trolls.
Report as
What are you talking about? I've never heard or seen a single warlike word from anyone identifying themselves as Buddhist.
Report as
Koichan- I'm Buddhist and our record is NEARLY spotless.

Islam is criticized throughout the world very much. But this is blessing in disguise. People due to curiosity want to see why it is criticized most. When they see the truth they follow Islam. The worlds most fastest growing religion is Islam.

A majority of the people on this site are American. The American population is 75% Christian, so the most discussed religion on this site tends to be Christianity. That means that, due to the nature of a balanced discussion, you will find criticisms of this belief system as well.
Christianity also is one of the only religions on the world that actively tries to convert other people. When you attempt to push your religion onto others or, as in much of America, into laws, schools, and government, you open your beliefs up to criticism. Don't want your religion critically examined or criticized? Keep it to yourself.

I would say atheism is the most maligned, but it's not a religion so not under the parameters of your question.

We are the most hated group of people. Which is weird, because we're also the fastest growing. I *think* Hitchens said that.

I'm Canadian. The churches here are almost empty. I know Catholics and Mennonites who don't bother anymore. I know ONE person who attends church regularly. Her spouse won't go. So churches here are being sold and made into real estate offices and restaurants.

That's money better spent.

When will the States finally catch up? There's an old, mainly white, mainly male population here who are being dragged, kicking and screaming into the 21st Century...

I don't think any human should have the right to CRITICIZE another. We all share different beliefs and should respect each other's opinions. Whether Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Agnostic, Atheist, or anything else. We should all just respect one another's difference of opinion. =)

No one should feel they have the right to ATTACK others they disagree with. But criticism is a uniquely human trait. I see nothing wrong with talking about our differences.
Report as
Oh, sorry if I said that the wrong way. Nothing is wrong with differing in opinion at all,or discussing it. For that is how many of us get to know more about how others think. However, criticize is defined as such: Indicate the faults of (someone or something) in a disapproving way. When it becomes "disapproving" to others, many voice that in a demeaning way.

Pretty sure we're adults, and we can take it.

Good answer @rrobles. @Noveltman, just because we CAN take it doesn't mean we should HAVE TO. We should be kind to one another, even when we disagree.
